Despite recent speculation linking Manchester United and Arsenal with a move for renowned striker Karim Benzema, the Frenchman has refuted claims of his desire to depart Al Ittihad.
Benzema made the switch to Al Ittihad from Real Madrid in the summer of 2023, inking a three-year deal worth £172 million per year. While sources suggest discontent in Saudi Arabia, Benzema’s departure could face significant obstacles, given the complex approval process involving Al Ittihad’s coach Marcelo Gallardo, sporting director Roman Planes, and Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Sport.
Contrary to rumors, Benzema has not conveyed any dissatisfaction or intention to leave Al Ittihad. The speculation gained traction when he returned late from a trip to Mauritius, leading to reports suggesting a ‘temporary’ exit desire and scheduled discussions with the club’s administration following interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.
Former club Lyon has also been linked with Benzema, adding to the allure of a potential move to the Premier League for the French striker, who enjoyed a prolific spell at Real Madrid with 354 goals in 14 trophy-laden years.
Dismissing the rumors, Benzema stated, “It’s entirely false! The French media is at a loss for new ideas. Bigger is better.”
While the financial complexities of Benzema’s salary might complicate any potential move, his addition could bolster the goal-scoring capabilities of both Manchester United and Arsenal. United currently languish in ninth place in the Premier League, struggling to find the net, while Arsenal faces challenges in maintaining their Premier League title aspirations.
