Manchester United has found Paul Pogba’s successor within their academy.

Manchester United’s emerging talent, Kobbie Mainoo, has been garnering attention and drawing comparisons to the likes of Paul Pogba due to his impressive strides on the field.

Mainoo’s performance for Manchester United’s Under-21s against Salford City in October sparked further comparisons to Pogba, as he exhibited his skills with two assists and demonstrated exceptional passing abilities reminiscent of the French star.

The match report by the MEN emphasized Mainoo’s readiness for first-team action, suggesting that his talent has outgrown academy football and is now needed in the senior squad.

Since his return from injury, Mainoo has seamlessly transitioned into the U21s lineup before earning opportunities with the first team under manager Erik ten Hag. Despite his young age of 18, Mainoo has quickly established himself as a key player for the senior squad, consistently featuring in the starting lineup.

Shortly after his senior debut last year, a source close to Mainoo confidently predicted that he would eventually represent England. Despite his limited appearances for United, Mainoo’s exceptional performances have put him in contention for a spot in the Three Lions squad for the upcoming European Championship.

Mainoo’s progress has been remarkable, with many believing that he possesses all the attributes to become a world-class talent, similar to Pogba’s rise from the academy in the late 2000s. Unlike Pogba, who departed on a free transfer to Juventus, Mainoo’s future at United seems secure, with suggestions that the team should build around him.

Known for his composed and likable personality, Mainoo is grounded by his parents, unlike Pogba, who faced character issues during his time at United.

While Mainoo has primarily played as a deep-lying midfielder in his senior appearances, there are indications that his long-term position could be as a No.8. He continues to work on improving his goal-scoring abilities, as evidenced by his recent goals against Newport County and Wolves.

Mainoo’s match-winning goal against Wolves was hailed as a moment of individual brilliance, earning him praise as a ‘generational talent’ from pundits.

Manager Erik ten Hag has also commended Mainoo’s progress, highlighting his determination and character.

With Manchester United’s track record of nurturing talent, Ten Hag believes Mainoo is in the ideal environment to take his game to the next level and fulfill his potential as a top-tier footballer.
