Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the verge of taking over as the new manager of a prominent European football club.

Since departing from his role at Manchester United in November 2021, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has remained in the spotlight, consistently linked with various managerial positions.

The latest opportunity reportedly on the table for the Norwegian tactician is with Besiktas, who recently parted ways with manager Riza Calimbay.

According to NTV Spor, negotiations have commenced between Besiktas and Solskjaer regarding the possibility of him succeeding Calimbay.

Besiktas find themselves in a precarious situation, sitting fifth in the Super Lig table and enduring a winless streak in domestic competitions.

Recent defeats to Alanyaspor and Fenerbahce, coupled with a humbling 5-0 loss to Club Brugge in the Europa Conference League, have highlighted the need for change at the helm.

Solskjaer’s managerial journey began with Manchester United’s Under-21 side in 2008, before he ventured to his native Norway to coach Molde three years later.

A brief and tumultuous spell at Cardiff City followed in 2014, before he returned to Molde in 2015. However, it was his appointment as caretaker manager at Manchester United in December 2018 that truly propelled him into the limelight.

Despite initially taking the reins on a temporary basis, Solskjaer’s transformative impact on the team led to his permanent appointment in March 2019.

During his tenure at Manchester United, Solskjaer received praise for his adept man-management skills and impressive record in big matches.

However, criticism mounted over his failure to deliver silverware to the club, despite significant investments in star players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho during the summer of 2021.

The inability to capitalize on these signings ultimately led to Solskjaer’s departure early in the 2021/22 season.

Following his exit, Ralf Rangnick assumed the role of interim manager for the remainder of the campaign, with Solskjaer reportedly offering honest assessments of the squad to aid in the transition.

In April 2022, Erik ten Hag was unveiled as Manchester United’s permanent manager, marking the end of Solskjaer’s era at Old Trafford.

As speculation swirls around his potential move to Besiktas, Solskjaer remains a figure of interest in the footballing world, with his next managerial destination eagerly anticipated by fans and pundits alike.
