This morning, Manchester United parted ways with manager Eric Ten Hag and goalkeeper Andre Onana as the club welcomes a new manager to Old Trafford.

Andre Onana’s performance in Manchester United’s recent matches has raised concerns after he made two costly errors leading to goals against Galatasaray.

In an alternate scenario, where Onana isn’t the goalkeeper, United would likely be in a more secure position heading into their final Champions League group game.

The mistakes leading to Bayern Munich’s opener and Casemiro’s sending off against Galatasaray have brought Onana’s reliability into question.

While he has shown flashes of quality, such as his crucial penalty save against FC Copenhagen, his errors have overshadowed his positive contributions.

Despite his talent and past successes with Inter in the Champions League, Onana’s recurring mistakes are becoming a cause for concern.

Since the 2018/19 season, he has made more errors leading to goals than any other goalkeeper in the competition.

Manager Erik ten Hag has refrained from solely blaming Onana for the team’s recent struggles, but the Dutchman must be contemplating the goalkeeper’s position in the squad.

United now find themselves relying on other results in the final group game, needing a win against Bayern Munich and hoping for a draw in the other match to secure qualification.

Onana’s inconsistency has added a sense of uncertainty to United’s already fragile side. While he possesses qualities that benefit the team, his lapses in concentration have proven costly.

It remains to be seen if Ten Hag will persist with Onana or consider alternative options to address the team’s goalkeeping issues.
