Liverpool FC is surprised by a player’s request for a new contract, posing a potential dilemma for Michael Edwards as the player threatens to join rival Premier League club Manchester United if his demands aren’t fulfilled.

Liverpool has been taken by surprise by Luis Diaz’s request for a contract extension at Anfield.

The winger, who has garnered interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, is reportedly seeking a new deal that reflects his current performance level.

Despite joining from Porto in January 2022, Diaz has yet to extend his contract beyond the initial five-and-a-half-year agreement.

The 27-year-old has been in impressive form since the start of the year, tallying five goals and three assists in his last 10 Premier League appearances.

While Diaz still has three years remaining on his current contract, he is said to be pursuing improved terms through his agent, aiming to match his current performance on the field.

Richard Hughes is poised to assume the role vacated by Michael Edwards, having previously held a similar position at Premier League rivals Bournemouth.

Hughes comes highly recommended by Edwards, and his impending appointment played a significant role in persuading Edwards to return to Liverpool.

The upcoming summer is expected to usher in significant changes for Hughes, a former Portsmouth midfielder. By the time Hughes officially takes over on June 1,

Liverpool may have a new manager, with reports indicating that Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim is a leading contender for the position.

Furthermore, Liverpool faces an urgent issue regarding Mohamed Salah’s future. With just 12 months remaining on his contract this summer, the club icon holds increased leverage in determining his next move.

Saudi Arabian clubs are anticipated to revive their interest in luring Salah to the Middle East.

Despite rejecting world-record bids for the Egyptian winger last summer, Liverpool may find themselves in a less favorable negotiating position this time around.
