According to reports, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to offload two Manchester United players with what he perceives as “inflated contracts.”
In a statement on the club’s official website, it was announced that “Sir Jim Ratcliffe has finalized his acquisition of 25% of the club’s Class B shares and 25% of its Class A shares, following the fulfillment of all conditions, including approvals from the Football Association and the Premier League.” Manchester United plc (NYSE: MANU) and Trawlers Limited, a company fully owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, jointly confirmed this development.
Ratcliffe and his team at INEOS will take charge of the team’s football operations, while the Glazers will retain control of the business aspects.
In an effort to reduce the club’s wage bill, Ratcliffe and his associates reportedly intend to offload certain players during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The INEOS team is reportedly keen to offload players they believe are on “inflated contracts,” including French defender Raphael Varane and Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, according to iNews.
Varane, formerly of Real Madrid, is expected to be released in the summer when his contract expires.
Meanwhile, Casemiro, the 32-year-old midfielder, has allegedly attracted interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, fueling speculation about his potential departure from Old Trafford.
Under Erik ten Hag, United has experienced a challenging season, failing to meet expectations.
Currently occupying sixth place in the Premier League standings, the Red Devils are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season.
