Fabrizio Romano confirms: Sir Jim Ratcliffe denies rumors of Mason Greenwood leaving Manchester United, emphasizing his importance to the club after impressive loan spell in Spain. Greenwood remains a key player for United.

Mason Greenwood’s resurgence at Getafe has led to his nomination for the La Liga Team of the Season, prompting Manchester United to confront a pivotal decision regarding his future amid ongoing transfer discussions.

In January 2022, the then-22-year-old forward faced suspension from United following serious allegations including attempted rape, assault, and coercive behavior, which he vehemently denied.

However, in February 2023, Greenwood was cleared of all charges after the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case due to various factors, including the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence.

After a thorough six-month inquiry, former chief executive Richard Arnold reportedly intended to reintegrate Greenwood last summer, with support from then-manager Erik ten Hag and football director John Murtough.

However, due to significant internal and external backlash, plans changed dramatically, resulting in Greenwood’s last-minute move to Spain.

Since joining Getafe, Greenwood has revitalized his career, registering 10 goals and six assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.

His stellar performances have earned him a nomination for the La Liga Team of the Season, alongside esteemed players like Antonio Rudiger, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Junior. Notably, Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong and ex-Manchester United defender Daley Blind are also among the nominees.

Greenwood’s nomination has notably increased his market value ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window. Manchester United reportedly plan to offload several players to address financial constraints amid the onset of the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era.

It’s believed that United are open to selling Greenwood for a transfer fee ranging between £30 million to £40 million. However, they also have the option to extend his contract until 2026, providing leverage in negotiations.

While reports suggest interest from clubs in Spain, Italy, and beyond, United hold the key to Greenwood’s future. If potential suitors fail to meet United’s valuation, Greenwood could potentially return to Manchester next season.

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s co-ownership of United began in February, there has been a renewed emphasis on reassessing Greenwood’s future.

With decision-making approaching its climax, the club finds itself at a crucial juncture in determining the path forward for Greenwood’s career.
