Located just 30 minutes away from Milan, Como 1907 has struggled to maintain its status as a prominent football club amidst competition from European giants like Inter Milan and AC Milan.
Despite its rich history, Como has endured numerous challenges, including financial troubles and relegations to lower divisions.
However, a recent resurgence has seen the club bounce back from adversity, thanks in part to new ownership and strategic investments.
In 2019, the Hartono brothers, through their Djarum Group, acquired Como 1907, injecting much-needed financial stability into the club. Under their ownership, debts were cleared, and the club experienced a rapid rise through the ranks.
Within a few months, Como secured promotion, followed by another promotion to Serie B two seasons later.
This turnaround in fortunes has been accompanied by a significant increase in attendance, with average gate numbers rising from 400 to 7,000, with half of the attendees holding season tickets.
The influx of British talent and expertise has also played a crucial role in Como’s revival. Notable figures from English and Welsh football, including Dennis Wise and Cesc Fabregas, have joined the club in various capacities, bringing with them their wealth of experience and knowledge.
Fabregas, in particular, has made a significant impact both on and off the pitch. After retiring as a player, he transitioned into coaching, taking charge of Como’s Primavera team before assuming the role of first-team manager on an interim basis.
Fabregas’ leadership has brought about positive changes in Como’s playing style and performance. His ability to communicate effectively and adapt his coaching methods has resonated with the players, leading to improvements in control and attacking numbers.
Despite his illustrious playing career at clubs like Arsenal and Barcelona, Fabregas emphasizes the importance of flexibility and adaptability in football tactics, highlighting the need to evolve with the game’s ever-changing dynamics.
At the Mozzate training center, Fabregas’s hands-on approach to coaching is evident as he actively participates in drills and provides feedback to players.
His dedication to improving the team’s performance is reflected in his meticulous attention to detail and relentless pursuit of excellence. Despite the challenges and pressures of coaching, Fabregas remains focused on his ultimate goal of helping Como achieve success on the field.
