Disappointing developments emerge as Alphonso Davies rejects a reported transfer arrangement with Real Madrid, opting instead to join one of Europe’s top clubs this summer.

Bayern Munich has reportedly engaged in discussions with AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez as a contingency plan should they need to secure a replacement for left-back Alphonso Davies, whose contract at the Allianz Arena expires in 2025.

With negotiations over a contract extension for Davies stalling, Bayern faces the prospect of potentially losing him on a free transfer next year, prompting speculation about his departure this summer.

Davies has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and Bayern is allegedly making preparations for his potential exit by considering a move for Hernandez.

The 26-year-old, whose brother Lucas previously played for Bayern, is said to be open to a move to Bavaria. However, Bayern expects Milan to demand €60 million for Hernandez, although formal discussions between the two clubs have yet to occur.

Bayern’s pursuit of Hernandez hinges on Davies’ departure, and their new head coach will also have the authority to veto any deal for the French full-back.

As the club continues its search for a successor to Thomas Tuchel, they have already faced setbacks, with Austria boss Ralf Rangnick turning down an offer. Former manager Hansi Flick is now reportedly on their shortlist of potential candidates.

Despite speculation about Davies’ potential move to Madrid, doubts have emerged in the Spanish press regarding the likelihood of the transfer, largely due to Bayern’s steep asking price.

Real Madrid may opt to postpone any move for Davies and pursue a pre-contract agreement next season instead.

In a recent Champions League fixture against Madrid, Davies showcased his versatility by being deployed as a winger.

He made a significant impact by scoring a stunning goal off the bench, temporarily putting Bayern ahead before Madrid secured a late victory with two goals from Joselu.

The defeat ensured that Bayern would conclude the season without securing any silverware for the first time since 2012.
