A key Arsenal player has officially announced their permanent departure from the club.

Arsenal forward Cloe Lacasse is reportedly set to leave the club this summer after just one season, according to a report by Tim Stillman from Arseblog.

The 31-year-old Canadian international joined Arsenal from Benfica last summer, where she had spent four years in Portugal. Before her stint in Portugal, Lacasse played for Iceland’s ÍBV and the Toronto Lady Lynx in her home country, Canada.

Despite being relatively new to the squad, Lacasse made 23 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions during the 2023/24 season, scoring five goals. One of her standout moments came early in her WSL career when she scored a dramatic late equalizer against Manchester United in just her second league appearance. However, she struggled to consistently build on that early success throughout the season.

This summer, Lacasse represented Canada in the Paris Olympics, making three appearances as her team advanced to the quarter-finals. While she has shown her abilities on both the club and international stages, it seems her time at Arsenal may be coming to an end sooner than expected.

Reports suggest that the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League) in the United States is a likely destination for Lacasse, as she is expected to depart during the current transfer window. Her exit would come amidst a busy summer for Arsenal, who have been working hard to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.

In their efforts to bolster the team, Arsenal has made two significant attacking signings. Mariona Caldentey, who joined on a free transfer from Barcelona, was one of the first additions to the squad. More recently, the Gunners secured the signing of Rosa Kafaji from Swedish club BK Häcken, adding further depth to their attacking options.

Arsenal finished third in the Women’s Super League (WSL) standings last season, just five points behind the champions Chelsea and runners-up Manchester City. The team won 16 of their 22 games, demonstrating strong performance throughout the season but ultimately falling short of the top spot.

With the new season set to begin on Sunday, September 22, Arsenal will kick off their campaign against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium. The match is expected to be a crucial one, as both teams are likely to be title contenders this season.

As the new season approaches, Arsenal will be looking to build on their third-place finish and challenge for the WSL title.

However, the potential departure of Lacasse adds an additional layer of complexity to their preparations, as they seek to finalize their squad and ensure they are ready to compete at the highest level.
