Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has acknowledged that he was tempted by interest from the Saudi Pro League but emphasized his commitment to staying with his current club and potentially signing a new contract.

Widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, Alisson has enjoyed considerable success since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2018. During his time with the Reds, he has won the Premier League, the Champions League, and several other cup competitions.

Reports surfaced in May that Saudi Arabian clubs were eyeing the 31-year-old Brazilian, along with Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, as top targets for the summer transfer window.

However, Alisson has now disclosed that, despite the allure of a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, he ultimately decided to remain at Anfield and continue playing under Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot.

In an interview with *The Times*, Alisson confirmed the Saudi interest but stated his desire to honor his current contract with Liverpool, possibly even extending it. “Yes, they had interest. I want to honor my contract and finish my contract here or make a new one. I am really happy here.

My family is happy,” Alisson said. He further explained that while the interest from Saudi Arabia was flattering, he never entered into detailed discussions about wages. Nonetheless, the financial figures being offered to other players by Saudi clubs did catch his attention, which he described as a natural reaction. “When you hear about the numbers the other players are getting, you are a little bit attracted. That is normal,” he admitted.

Despite the temptation, Alisson emphasized that his focus remains on his love for the game and his commitment to Liverpool. He expressed that while financial considerations are a part of professional football, he is not ready to make a move just yet. “At the end of the day, you play football for love, it is the thing you like to do, but it is our profession and we want to use the years that we have to make the most of it. I think I am open to that personally but not now. Now is not the time,” he clarified.

Alisson also noted that while he is committed to Liverpool, he remains open to future discussions if the club decides to entertain offers for him. “While I still have my contract here, I will be focused here. If it is in the interest of the club to negotiate [to sell] me, then it will be a different conversation,” he said.

Ultimately, Alisson’s decision was driven by his excitement about the new chapter at Liverpool under Slot’s leadership. He expressed enthusiasm for the fresh start and the potential achievements the club could reach in the upcoming season. “When the interest from Saudi came, I cannot close the door on a big deal [without thinking].

But my decision was always to stay and focus on the things we can achieve, this new beginning and this new start, and I am really excited about that. We are starting fresh with new energy and looking forward to what this season will bring for us.”

As Liverpool prepares to continue their winning start to the new Premier League season, Alisson remains a key figure in the team’s ambitions, underscoring his dedication to the club and its future successes.
