Devastating news has emerged this evening confirming that Mason Mount’s career may be over.

Mason Mount has expressed his “frustration” after sustaining an injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for over a month. The Manchester United midfielder, who was limited to just 20 appearances in his debut season due to various fitness problems, had been featuring regularly in the early weeks of the current campaign.

However, he was forced to leave the pitch at halftime during United’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion due to what appeared to be a hamstring issue.

Manchester United has since confirmed that Mount will miss “a few games” because of this injury. Reports from The Athletic suggest that the 24-year-old could be out of action for four to five weeks.

Addressing the situation in a statement shared on social media, Mount said: “During the last game, I picked up a minor muscle issue. I’ve had it checked and it looks like I’ll be out for a few games. Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be, and I felt re-energised, sharp, and ready.”

Mount also expressed his disappointment over this setback, stating, “I wanted you to hear it directly from me how frustrated I am, as I expect you are too. I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.” This situation feels eerily reminiscent of the 2023/24 season, where Mount also suffered a hamstring injury in the second game, leading to a five-week absence.

After recovering, he managed to play for nearly two months before sustaining a calf injury in November, which sidelined him until late March. Upon his return, Mount had to settle for limited appearances off the bench for the remainder of the season.

Mount started this season in strong form, demonstrating his work rate and adaptability in matches against Fulham and Brighton. However, this new injury places him alongside a growing list of sidelined players for Manchester United, including Luke Shaw, Rasmus Hojlund, Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia, and Victor Lindelof, as the team prepares for their upcoming clash with Liverpool.

Mount’s injury is a significant blow to Manchester United, especially considering his efforts to regain top form and fitness over the summer.

It also adds to the club’s challenges in maintaining a fully fit squad during a demanding Premier League campaign. Fans and the club alike will be hoping for Mount’s swift recovery, as his presence and energy in midfield will be crucial in the battles ahead.
