Just In: English club’s season is over in September after their points deduction was confirmed this morning.

According to the BBC, the owner of Reading Football Club, Dai Yongge, received a directive from the English Football League (EFL) in August, instructing him to deposit 125% of the club’s wage bill into a specified account by a certain deadline.

Unfortunately, this financial requirement was not met, resulting in an immediate activation of a suspended points deduction penalty.

This incident marks the second time this year that Reading has incurred point deductions, adding to the turmoil of their current campaign.

In August, the club faced a one-point deduction due to delayed wage payments, further highlighting financial instability within the organization.

The latest points deduction follows a more severe six-point penalty imposed in April for breaching profit and sustainability regulations.

This penalty played a significant role in Reading’s relegation from the Championship to League One.

The EFL has asserted its commitment to penalizing Reading for rule violations, emphasizing that Chinese businessman Dai Yongge remains dedicated to the club. Dai is actively seeking new investors to bolster the club’s financial stability.

This situation poses a genuine concern for Reading, especially considering their Premier League status just a decade ago.

Additional points deductions could have far-reaching consequences for the club’s performance and aspirations in the current season.

The need for financial stability and adherence to EFL regulations is paramount to ensure Reading’s future competitiveness and success.
