Manchester United has officially announced that Mason Greenwood will not extend his loan spell at Getafe, as the club has made a surprising decision regarding his transfer.

Manchester United’s loanee Mason Greenwood is set to leave Getafe at the end of his loan spell, as the Red Devils have made a decision regarding his future amid interest from Barcelona and potential return to Old Trafford.

Greenwood, who has represented England once at the international level, has made a significant impact during his time in Spain, attracting attention from various clubs, including Barcelona.

Speculation intensified when Manchester United executives John Murtough and Matt Hargreaves were spotted meeting with Deco, a counterpart from Barcelona, in the Catalan city.

Additionally, Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s manager, has expressed openness to Greenwood’s return, but only if it aligns with the interests of all parties involved.

However, recent reports from Marca provide an update on the situation, indicating that Manchester United has opted to sell Greenwood.

United has reportedly set a price tag of £42.8 million on the talented academy graduate, signaling their intention to cash in on his potential.

Despite Getafe’s desire to retain Greenwood, they are unable to meet the hefty transfer fee demanded by United.

Getafe’s club officials are expected to negotiate with Manchester United, emphasizing Greenwood’s suitability to their playing style and team dynamics.

However, the English club appears resolute in their decision to sell Greenwood, who is also eager to compete in European competitions like the Champions League.

This development poses a setback for Barcelona, as they are unable to meet the transfer fee demanded by Manchester United.

Despite meetings between Manchester United and Barcelona officials during a recent visit to Spain by Murtough and Hargreaves, a potential move to Barcelona seems unlikely due to financial constraints.

Throughout the current season, Greenwood has made 23 appearances in the Spanish top-flight for Getafe, contributing six goals and five assists to theteam’s performance.
