Reports have emerged explaining why Bruno Fernandes escaped a red card during the Manchester United versus Liverpool FA Cup match.
Despite being previously booked, Manchester United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, avoided receiving a second yellow card for a challenge on Dominik Szoboszlai.
Lee Dixon, providing co-commentary during the match, acknowledged Fernandes’ fortunate escape from a yellow card but argued against it deserving a straight red.
He noted that such incidents are common during matches and while they may be scrutinized by VAR, it did not intervene in this case.
Dixon further commented that if a similar tackle had occurred elsewhere on the field and Fernandes had not already been booked, he would have likely received a yellow card.
He emphasized his belief that the referee would have cautioned Fernandes if the challenge had taken place on the halfway line.
