Reports are circulating once again about a potential move for Anthony Martial to Inter Milan, with Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting that the Italian club is considering making a fresh approach for the French striker.

Inter’s interest in Martial comes with reservations due to concerns over his recent poor form and injury history.

While Martial is on Inter’s radar, he is not their primary target in the attacking department. The club’s main focus is on securing the services of Albert Gudmundsson from Genoa, a player who has also attracted attention from Tottenham Hotspur in recent months.

Gudmundsson’s contract with Genoa runs until 2027, indicating that any potential deal for him would likely require a significant transfer fee.

Should Inter fail to secure a deal for Gudmundsson, they may turn their attention to Martial.

One advantage of pursuing Martial is that he would be available on a free transfer this summer, eliminating the need for Inter to pay a transfer fee to Manchester United.

This would allow Inter to engage directly with Martial’s representatives without the complication of negotiating with his current club.

A move to Serie A could provide Martial with the fresh start he needs to revive his career after several disappointing seasons in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old has struggled to replicate his earlier successes, with just two goals in 19 appearances across all competitions this season. In contrast, Gudmundsson has been in fine form, scoring 12 goals in 29 Serie A matches.

Since joining Manchester United from Monaco in 2015, Martial has scored 90 goals in 317 appearances. However, his goal-scoring output has declined significantly since his prolific 2019/20 campaign, during which he netted 23 times in 48 games.

A loan spell at Sevilla in the second half of the 2021/22 season did not yield the desired results for Martial, further highlighting his recent struggles.

Inter Milan’s potential pursuit of Martial represents a calculated risk for the club. While his talent is undeniable, his recent form and injury record raise concerns.

However, the opportunity to acquire a player of Martial’s caliber on a free transfer could be too enticing for Inter to pass up, especially if they are unable to secure their primary target in Gudmundsson.

Ultimately, the decision will depend on various factors, including Inter’s evaluation of Martial’s fitness, his willingness to embrace a new challenge in Serie A, and the club’s financial considerations.

Nonetheless, the prospect of Martial donning the blue and black of Inter Milan is certainly intriguing and could potentially reignite his career at a crucial juncture.
