Carlo Ancelotti has given an update on the injury status of Real Madrid’s Éder Militão ahead of their upcoming Champions League clash against Manchester City.

Real Madrid’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti has provided an explanation for the limited game-time given to Éder Militão in their recent match.

Militão recently returned from a lengthy injury layoff due to an ACL tear.

Ancelotti, ahead of Real Madrid’s match against RCD Mallorca, expressed his intention to gradually increase Militão’s playing time to improve his fitness, particularly with the Champions League quarter-final second-leg against Manchester City approaching.

Despite this plan, Militão found himself on the bench at the start of the match against Mallorca. Even when he was eventually brought on, it was during injury-time.

In the post-match press conference, Ancelotti was asked about Militão’s lack of game-time, and he attributed it to the close nature of the match.

Despite Real Madrid emerging as narrow 1-0 victors, Ancelotti felt that the tight scoreline did not allow for comfortable substitutions:

“I considered giving Militão more minutes in the second half,” Ancelotti began. “But the result was too close.”

Ancelotti’s decision to prioritize caution with Militão’s return from injury reflects the importance of managing players’ fitness levels, especially when returning from long-term injuries like an ACL tear.

With crucial matches on the horizon, including the Champions League clash with Manchester City, Ancelotti’s cautious approach aims to ensure that Militão is fully fit and ready for the challenges ahead.

While fans may have been eager to see Militão back in action, Ancelotti’s decision underscores the need for patience and careful management to avoid setbacks and ensure the player’s long-term well-being.

As Real Madrid continue to compete on multiple fronts, including the La Liga title race and the Champions League, having a fully fit and capable squad is essential for success.

Overall, Ancelotti’s explanation sheds light on the thought process behind his decision regarding Militão’s game-time, emphasizing the importance of balancing short-term objectives with the long-term health and performance of the player and the team as a whole.
