Enzo Fernandez, a midfielder for Chelsea, has revealed that his recent surgery to address a groin injury was successful in alleviating the problem.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been grappling with muscular issues since October, which ultimately led to his decision to undergo surgery, sidelining him for Chelsea’s last six games of the season.

Upon his transfer from Benfica to Stamford Bridge in January 2023, Fernandez became the most expensive player in Premier League history.

Reflecting on his recent ordeal, Fernandez acknowledged the necessity of opting for surgery to address the persistent pain that had been increasingly unbearable.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Fernandez expressed gratitude for the successful procedure, stating, “Thank God, my surgery went smoothly, and everything went well. I’ve been enduring the pain for about six months, so I needed this surgery.”

Despite attempts to manage the discomfort through injections and medication, Fernandez noted that the pain worsened during physical activity and games, prompting him to make the difficult decision to end his season prematurely.

However, he remains optimistic about his recovery, affirming that he will return to action “stronger than before.”

“I could have continued to endure it by continuing to receive injections and medication. However, a few weeks ago, the pain intensified during exercise and games, despite these measures proving ineffective. I didn’t want to miss out on playing for Chelsea, but the pain became too much to bear,” Fernandez explained.

Acknowledging the support he has received from fans, Fernandez expressed his determination to return stronger, thanking them for their encouragement and love.

In response to Chelsea’s decision to allow Fernandez to undergo surgery and miss the remaining games of the season, Mauricio Pochettino voiced his support, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the player’s long-term health.

“Enzo Fernandez has been dealing with discomfort due to his inability to perform under normal circumstances. Resolving the issue is paramount,” Pochettino stated. “It’s not beneficial for the player, the club, or anyone else if he continues to struggle.”

Fernandez’s decision to prioritize his health and undergo surgery reflects the commitment of both the player and the club to his well-being and long-term success.

As he embarks on his road to recovery, Fernandez remains optimistic about returning to the pitch stronger and ready to make a significant impact for Chelsea in the future.
