Arsenal’s January target confirms deal but lays down a SHOCKING condition.

Arsenal and Chelsea are both reportedly interested in acquiring Aston Villa’s highly-rated striker Ollie Watkins when the transfer window opens in January.

The 27-year-old forward has attracted significant attention after an impressive 2022/23 season where he scored 15 goals in the Premier League, helping Aston Villa secure European football for the first time in over a decade.

Watkins has continued to perform well this season, having scored one goal and provided two assists so far. His consistent form has prompted Aston Villa manager Unai Emery to express his desire to keep the England international at Villa Park for the foreseeable future. In a recent press conference, Emery confirmed that talks were ongoing between the club and Watkins’ representatives regarding a new contract, saying, “I am working about it. We are in touch.”

Despite Aston Villa opening contract negotiations with Watkins back in May, an agreement has yet to be reached, which has sparked interest from several Premier League clubs.

Reports suggest that both Arsenal and Chelsea are keen on signing Watkins in January, with the potential for a bidding war between the two London rivals. Aston Villa, however, is unlikely to let their star striker leave easily, with previous reports valuing him at around £60 million.

Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, is said to be actively engaged in discussions with Watkins’ agent, Paulo Vernazza, regarding a potential mid-season move to the Emirates.

While Arsenal may be leading the race, Chelsea are also expected to challenge their London rivals for Watkins’ signature. Additionally, Serie A giants AC Milan have expressed interest in the forward as they seek a long-term replacement for veteran striker Olivier Giroud.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea have compelling reasons to pursue Watkins. Arsenal has made a strong start to the current season, winning four and drawing two of their first six Premier League games.

However, critics have pointed out that the Gunners lack a prolific goal-scoring center-forward, a potential flaw that could hinder their title chances. Watkins could provide the attacking firepower they need to push for the league title.

Chelsea, on the other hand, has struggled under new manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues have picked up just five points from their first six games and currently sit 14th in the table. Scoring goals has been a particular issue for Chelsea, as they have managed just five goals, one of the lowest tallies in the league.

New signing Nicolas Jackson has shown promise but has only found the back of the net once. Watkins’ proven Premier League experience and goal-scoring ability could be the boost Chelsea needs to get their season back on track.

As January approaches, the fate of Watkins’ future will likely depend on whether Aston Villa can secure his commitment through a new contract. If they fail to do so, both Arsenal and Chelsea are expected to make concrete offers for the striker, making him one of the most sought-after players in the upcoming transfer window.
