Pep Guardiola has told a Manchester City flop to leave the club after recording fewer touches than the goalkeeper and repeatedly losing possession to the opposition.

Bournemouth supporters had every reason to celebrate after their team secured a memorable victory against the reigning Premier League champions, Manchester City.

Such a result is rare, especially against Pep Guardiola’s side. Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth showed grit and determination, proving their ability to compete at the highest level.

For Manchester City, this 2-1 defeat marked their first league loss of the season and underscored a troubling dip in form. Coming off a midweek cup loss to Tottenham, Guardiola’s men struggled to impose themselves at the Vitality Stadium.

Despite Arsenal’s earlier loss to Newcastle, which seemingly left the title race open, City failed to capitalize on the opportunity. Josko Gvardiol’s late consolation goal was not enough to salvage the match.

City’s performance lacked their usual energy and precision. Although effort cannot be questioned, Bournemouth simply ran harder and played smarter. Guardiola, visibly frustrated on the touchline, refrained from dramatic gestures but clearly recognized his team’s current struggles.

Injuries have compounded City’s woes, with key players like John Stones and Ruben Dias joining a growing list of absentees. While Jeremy Doku, Kyle Walker, and Kevin De Bruyne made returns, Guardiola has been vocal about his squad needing to play through injuries.

However, City’s intentionally small squad—something Guardiola prefers—has been stretched thin. Since 2018, City players have averaged over 60 matches per season, a demanding schedule that may now be taking its toll.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, capitalized on City’s vulnerabilities. Iraola’s side, already buoyed by their earlier win over Arsenal at home, approached the game with confidence.

Milos Kerkez and Antoine Semenyo led the charge, with Kerkez setting up Semenyo for the opener after just two minutes. Semenyo’s strength and precision left City trailing, and their defense struggled to keep up with Bournemouth’s pace.

Despite City’s habit of overcoming deficits, their response this time lacked the urgency needed. Bournemouth disrupted City’s rhythm, often undoing any progress with quick, incisive counterattacks.

The second goal, a header from Evanilson off a Kerkez cross, highlighted City’s defensive frailty.

Gvardiol’s late header added drama to the final minutes, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome. Bournemouth’s resilience and determination earned them a well-deserved victory, while City’s performance exposed cracks in their armor, leaving Guardiola with much to ponder.
