It’s not every day you see a footballer reject a personal accolade, but Amad Diallo reminded the world that humility can shine brighter than any trophy.

After Manchester United’s hard-fought draw, the young Ivorian forward who scored the vital equalizer  stunned both fans and pundits by publicly turning down his Man of the Match award.

“I gave the award back,” Amad said calmly after the game. “Yes, I got the goal that earned us a point, but I wasn’t the best player tonight. The fans made the wrong call.”

His modest words spread rapidly across social media and sports outlets, earning him admiration from all corners of the football community.

In a sport often dominated by ego and personal celebration, Amad’s gesture served as a refreshing reminder that respect and selflessness still exist in modern football.

The match itself had been a tense and emotional showdown between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest. United were made to struggle throughout, facing an organized and relentless opponent.

When defeat seemed inevitable, Amad came to the rescue with a late equalizer that salvaged a valuable point. But instead of basking in glory, the winger shifted the spotlight toward a teammate he felt had done more to keep United in the game.

Although he didn’t name the player, many inside Old Trafford speculated that he was referring to one of the unsung heroes  possibly a defender or midfielder who had worked tirelessly without recognition.

Inside the dressing room, Amad’s gesture reportedly earned a standing ovation. Teammates and staff were deeply moved by his humility.

“That’s what leadership looks like,” said one insider. “Ruben Amorim has been preaching teamwork and unity since he arrived, and Amad just showed what that means in practice.”

When asked about Amad’s decision, manager Ruben Amorim wasn’t surprised. “That’s who he is,” Amorim smiled.

“He’s not just a talented footballer; he’s a good human being. This team is about collective strength, not individual awards — and Amad understands that perfectly.”

Fans were equally touched. Social media was flooded with praise for the 22-year-old, with one supporter writing, “This is the Manchester United we know and love. He saved us with that goal and still gave credit to someone else
