‘Unfortunately…’ – Medical expert delivers frightening Hugo Ekitike verdict after injury blow

Liverpool’s disappointment following their Champions League exit has been made even worse by a concerning injury to Hugo Ekitiké, which at first glance already looked serious but may now be far more damaging than initially expected.

The incident occurred just before the half-hour mark of the match, when the French forward suddenly collapsed to the ground without any apparent contact from an opponent. The nature of the fall immediately raised alarm, as he appeared to be in significant pain. Medical staff rushed onto the pitch, and after a brief assessment, he was stretchered off, unable to continue.

His early exit forced Mohamed Salah to come on as a substitute much earlier than planned, disrupting Liverpool’s attacking setup.

Former defender Stephen Warnock, who was watching the incident unfold, remarked that the 23-year-old looked to be “in agony” as he went down, emphasizing the severity of the situation. However, what followed afterward has caused even greater concern among fans and observers alike.

Shortly after the match, sports scientist and physical therapy doctor Rajpal Brar shared his professional opinion on the injury via social media platform X. His analysis painted a troubling picture. According to Dr. Brar, the mechanism of the injury strongly resembles a classic Achilles tendon rupture, a type of injury that typically occurs during a sudden push-off movement. If this initial diagnosis is confirmed, it would represent a major setback for the Liverpool striker.

Dr. Brar further explained that recovery from such an injury for elite footballers usually takes between seven to nine months, and in many cases, players require even longer to return to their peak performance levels. This timeline raises serious doubts about Ekitike’s availability for the foreseeable future.

Should this prognosis prove accurate, it would be a devastating blow not only for Liverpool but also for the player personally. The injury could potentially rule him out of representing France at the upcoming World Cup this summer, a major opportunity that now hangs in the balance. Additionally, a lengthy recovery period might mean that Ekitike does not return to competitive action at all in 2026, depending on how his rehabilitation progresses.

For Liverpool, the timing could hardly be worse. The team had only recently welcomed Alexander Isak back from a long-term injury, and this match offered a rare glimpse of both strikers playing together. Unfortunately, that partnership was cut short in under 30 minutes, leaving the team once again dealing with attacking limitations.

Manager Arne Slot addressed the situation after the match, admitting that the early signs are “not good,” which further suggests that the injury could keep Ekitike sidelined for a significant period. While a definitive diagnosis is expected in the coming days, the current outlook remains worrying.

As the football world awaits further updates, there is widespread hope that the injury may not be as severe as feared. For now, thoughts and well wishes are with Ekitike as he faces what could be a long and challenging road to recovery following this heartbreaking setback.
