Bayern Munich 4-3 Real Madrid: Diaz and Olise strike late to send Bavarians into Champions League semi-finals

Bayern Munich produced a thrilling late comeback to secure a dramatic 4-3 victory over Real Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night. The result ensured the German side advanced to the semi-finals with a 6-4 aggregate win, setting up a high-profile encounter with reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain, who had eliminated Liverpool a day earlier.

The match began in stunning fashion, as Madrid wasted no time in asserting themselves. Within just 45 seconds, Arda Güler found the back of the net with a brilliant long-range effort, curling the ball in from around 25 yards. It marked the fastest goal scored by Los Blancos in this season’s Champions League campaign and gave the visitors an early advantage.

However, Bayern responded almost immediately. In the sixth minute, Aleksandar Pavlović rose highest in the box to meet a precise delivery from Joshua Kimmich, heading the ball past Andriy Lunin to bring the hosts level.

Madrid regained their lead before the half-hour mark, once again through Güler. The young midfielder showcased his quality by curling a superb free-kick beyond Manuel Neuer, restoring his side’s advantage with a moment of real class.

The back-and-forth nature of the game continued, and Bayern equalized again in the 38th minute. Harry Kane calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner, demonstrating his clinical finishing ability. The goal was particularly significant as it marked his 50th strike across all competitions this season.

Madrid nearly edged ahead once more shortly afterward, as Vinícius Júnior unleashed a powerful effort that rattled the woodwork, denying him a spectacular goal. Nevertheless, the Brazilian played a crucial role in his team’s third goal just before half-time. He delivered an incisive pass to Kylian Mbappé, who kept his composure and finished neatly past Neuer to give Madrid a 3-2 lead heading into the break.

Early in the second half, Mbappé came close to extending Madrid’s advantage with a well-struck volley, but this time Neuer was alert and made a crucial save to keep Bayern within touching distance. The hosts struggled to create clear chances in the early stages of the second period, but eventually began to find their rhythm.

After the hour mark, Michael Olise tested Lunin with a curling effort aimed at the top corner, but the Madrid goalkeeper reacted well to push the ball over the bar.

The game took a decisive turn in the closing stages. With just two minutes of normal time remaining, Eduardo Camavinga was shown a red card, leaving Madrid with ten men. Bayern immediately capitalized on their numerical advantage.

Luis Díaz found space inside the penalty area and curled a precise shot into the top corner, bringing the score level at 3-3 and reigniting hope for the home side.

Deep into stoppage time, Bayern completed their remarkable comeback. Olise stepped up to deliver the decisive moment, curling a brilliant shot into the corner of the net to secure a 4-3 win on the night. His late strike sent the Allianz Arena into celebration and confirmed Bayern Munich’s place in the semi-finals of the competition after an unforgettable encounter.
