The Brentford player admitted their entire game plan was built around stopping Bruno

In the aftermath of Manchester United’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brentford, one of the most talked-about moments didn’t just come from the scoreline, but from a striking post-match confession by Brentford star Michael Kayode.

The defender admitted that his team had prepared extensively to neutralize Bruno Fernandes, widely regarded as United’s primary creative force.

However, their entire defensive strategy was undone by another United player who delivered an extraordinary performance, completely dismantling Brentford’s backline.

Kayode did not hold back in his assessment, revealing that the player in question performed at a level comparable to Lionel Messi.

According to him, it was one of the most difficult individual displays he has ever faced, as the player’s dribbling, movement, and unpredictability made him almost impossible to contain throughout the match.

The game itself, played at Old Trafford, saw Manchester United take control early on. Under the guidance of Michael Carrick, the team made a couple of changes to the starting lineup, bringing in Harry Maguire and Amad Diallo.

These adjustments appeared to pay off almost immediately, as United came out with intensity and purpose.

Their bright start was rewarded in the 11th minute when Casemiro powered home the opening goal, setting the tone for the rest of the encounter.

Brentford responded positively and created several opportunities to equalize, but their inability to convert chances proved costly in the long run.

Just before halftime, Benjamin Šeško doubled United’s lead with a composed finish, marking his 10th goal of the season. That goal gave United a comfortable cushion going into the break.

In the second half, Carrick introduced tactical changes that helped the team maintain control, slowing the tempo and preventing the match from turning into a chaotic, end-to-end contest.

Although Brentford managed to pull one back late in the game, it was ultimately too little, too late. United held firm defensively and secured all three points, moving within touching distance of a UEFA Champions League qualification spot.

Individually, several United players stood out. Goalkeeper Senne Lammens delivered an outstanding performance, making crucial saves to deny Brentford multiple times. In defense, Maguire contributed not only with solid defending but also with an assist.

Meanwhile, midfielders like Kobbie Mainoo impressed with their energy and ball-winning ability, while Bruno Fernandes continued his creative brilliance by registering yet another assist.

Despite all these strong performances, the spotlight remained firmly on the unnamed United player highlighted by Kayode.

His exceptional display proved decisive, as he single-handedly disrupted Brentford’s defensive organization and forced them to rethink their entire approach.
