Manchester United have reportedly opened fresh contract talks with Bruno Fernandes after growing fears surrounding his £57M release clause

Manchester United’s plans for the summer transfer window are gradually becoming clearer as the club works on strengthening the squad while also securing the future of some of its most important players.

With Michael Carrick preparing for what could be a defining season in his managerial career, attention has turned toward both new arrivals and contract negotiations as the club seeks to build a stronger foundation for long-term success.

One of the names most strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford is Brazilian midfielder Sandro Ederson. Reports suggest that negotiations are progressing positively, with the player moving closer to completing a transfer that could become one of the first major signings of Carrick’s era.

It is believed that personal terms have already been agreed, while Manchester United are prepared to invest approximately £38.5 million, including potential add-ons, to secure his services.

A long-term contract reportedly extending until 2031 reflects the club’s confidence in the midfielder’s ability to become a central figure in the team for many years.

Ederson’s potential arrival is viewed as a significant step in United’s efforts to rebuild and modernize their midfield.

Throughout recent seasons, the club has struggled to find consistency in the center of the pitch, often lacking the balance, energy, and control required to compete with the Premier League’s strongest teams.

Carrick is believed to see Ederson as a player capable of addressing many of those concerns due to his impressive work rate, ability to win possession, and effectiveness when pressing opponents high up the field.

The need for midfield reinforcements has become even more important because of the uncertainty surrounding the future of Casemiro.

While the experienced Brazilian remains a respected figure within the squad, speculation about a possible departure has encouraged the club to accelerate plans for the next phase of its midfield evolution.

Ederson’s physicality, tactical awareness, and experience at the highest level, including European competition, make him an attractive option for a team aiming to compete both domestically and in the Champions League.

Manchester United’s ambitions in midfield do not appear to stop there. Reports have also linked the club with Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, suggesting that Carrick wants a combination of defensive strength, technical quality, and creativity in the heart of the team.

A midfield partnership involving players such as Ederson, Tonali, and Kobbie Mainoo could potentially provide the balance and versatility United have been searching for.

At the same time, the club remains determined to secure the future of captain Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese playmaker continues to be regarded as one of the most influential players in the squad, both on and off the pitch.

His leadership, creativity, experience, and ability to perform in crucial moments make him a vital part of Carrick’s long-term plans.

Taken together, the pursuit of Ederson and the ongoing efforts to extend Fernandes’ contract highlight a clear strategy at Old Trafford.

Rather than focusing solely on short-term fixes, Manchester United appear committed to building a balanced, competitive, and sustainable squad capable of challenging for major honours in England and Europe for years to come.

The club’s approach suggests a growing emphasis on stability, smart recruitment, and long-term planning as a new chapter begins under Carrick’s leadership.
