Manchester United have overtaken Chelsea and Man City in the race agreement is now reached until 2029

Manchester United are reportedly becoming increasingly optimistic about securing one of their priority midfield targets this summer, with fresh reports suggesting the club has moved ahead of several Premier League rivals in the race for the highly-rated player.

The Red Devils are believed to have made significant progress behind the scenes, and confidence around Old Trafford continues to grow that an agreement could soon be finalized.

As Michael Carrick prepares for his first full season in charge following the club’s return to the Champions League, Manchester United are eager to strengthen several areas of the squad.

Midfield remains one of the club’s biggest priorities, with plans already in place to bring in multiple reinforcements capable of adding quality, energy, and tactical flexibility.

One of the players strongly linked with the club is Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Reports suggest United have been working on the transfer for several weeks and have now cleared an important obstacle in their pursuit.

Although West Ham are expected to demand a significant fee for the talented youngster, there is increasing belief that both clubs will eventually find common ground.

Sources close to the negotiations indicate that Manchester United are unwilling to meet the full £80 million valuation being discussed, but a compromise could be reached somewhere closer to the £60 million mark.

Club officials are said to have intensified discussions with the player’s representatives, while the midfielder himself is believed to be enthusiastic about the prospect of working under Carrick at Old Trafford.

Interest from other clubs has also complicated the situation. Real Madrid had reportedly monitored the player closely, with José Mourinho said to be an admirer.

However, the Spanish giants are believed to have cooled their interest because of the large financial demands involved. Reports now suggest that those close to the Madrid club expect Manchester United to win the race.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are not limiting their business to midfield alone. Left-back remains another position Carrick wants to strengthen, and Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall has emerged as one of the club’s preferred targets.

Hall enjoyed an impressive campaign and has attracted attention from several Premier League clubs. Newcastle are understood to be reluctant to part ways with the young defender, but Manchester United have maintained active communication with people close to the player in an effort to position themselves strongly should an opportunity arise.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently stated that United have maintained their interest in Hall and consider him one of their leading options.

Carrick reportedly views the 21-year-old as ideal competition and cover for Luke Shaw heading into a demanding campaign that will involve both domestic and European commitments.

Chelsea have also entered the race for Hall, increasing competition for his signature. Despite this, Manchester United are believed to remain confident of convincing the player about their long-term project and ambitions.

The club has already secured the signing of Brazilian midfielder Ederson, with official confirmation expected in due course after all formalities are completed.

However, United’s recruitment drive is far from over, with at least one more midfielder expected to arrive and possibly another depending on market opportunities.

Although United have experienced disappointment in their search for a new winger after one La Liga star reportedly rejected their approach, alternative options are already being explored.

Reports suggest the club has also held discussions regarding a Paris Saint-Germain player who is seeking a new challenge away from France.

As the summer window gathers momentum, Manchester United appear determined to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level once again.

With several negotiations progressing simultaneously, supporters are growing increasingly excited about what could become one of the club’s busiest and most ambitious transfer windows in recent years.
