Manchester United have reportedly been handed a huge transfer boost as Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams is said to favour a move to the Red Devils despite interest from other Premier League clubs

Manchester United have reportedly been handed a significant boost in their pursuit of Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams, with fresh reports indicating that the Welsh international is open to making the move to Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old is believed to be attracted by the opportunity to become part of Michael Carrick’s rebuilding project, with the chance to represent one of the biggest clubs in world football said to be a major factor influencing his preference.

As Manchester United continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new campaign, strengthening the defensive department remains one of the club’s top priorities.

After already adding new faces in midfield, attention has now shifted toward reinforcing the back line, and Williams has reportedly emerged as one of the leading candidates on the club’s shortlist.

Reports claim that although several Premier League clubs have expressed interest in signing the Nottingham Forest full-back, Williams currently favors a move to Manchester United.

Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the defender, but it is understood that the prospect of playing at Old Trafford and working under Carrick places United in a strong position if negotiations progress.

Williams has built a solid reputation since joining Nottingham Forest, impressing supporters with his pace, determination, and versatility.

While naturally a right-back, he has also demonstrated his ability to operate effectively on the left side of defense whenever required.

His flexibility has made him an attractive option for clubs seeking players capable of covering multiple positions without sacrificing quality.

Manchester United view those qualities as particularly valuable. The club is believed to be searching for defenders who can provide depth across the back line while also contributing in attack, and Williams’ ability to overlap, deliver crosses, and support offensive play fits well with the style Carrick hopes to implement.

Despite the growing speculation surrounding his future, Nottingham Forest are reportedly determined to keep hold of one of their key players.

Club officials are said to be preparing an improved long-term contract in an effort to persuade Williams to remain at the City Ground.

The proposed deal would reportedly include better financial terms as well as a commitment to making him an important figure within the squad.

Even with Forest’s determination to retain him, reports suggest Williams is eager to test himself at a higher level and compete for major trophies.

The opportunity to play for Manchester United, should a formal agreement be reached, is believed to be one that greatly appeals to the Wales international.

United, however, are expected to approach the situation carefully. Club executives are reportedly assessing the financial aspects of the transfer before deciding whether to submit an official offer.

Having already invested in strengthening other areas of the squad during the current transfer window, the Red Devils are determined to ensure any further additions represent good value while also fitting the club’s long-term plans.

An interesting aspect of the proposed transfer is that Liverpool could benefit financially if the deal goes through.

When Nottingham Forest signed Williams from Liverpool in 2022, the agreement reportedly included a 15 percent sell-on clause.

As a result, any future transfer involving the defender would see Liverpool receive a share of the transfer fee, adding another layer of intrigue to the negotiations.

Forest’s negotiating position remains strong because Williams is still under contract until 2029. The lengthy deal means the club is under no immediate pressure to sell, allowing them to demand a substantial fee from any interested club.

Manchester United would therefore need to present an attractive offer if they hope to convince Forest to part ways with one of their most reliable defenders.

As the summer transfer window continues, attention is expected to remain firmly focused on Williams’ future. Manchester United are reportedly eager to strengthen their defensive options, while Nottingham Forest are equally determined to retain one of their standout performers.

Whether United can reach an agreement in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but the defender continues to be regarded as one of the club’s priority targets as Carrick looks to assemble a squad capable of competing at the highest level next season.
