Rúben Amorim has reportedly changed his opinion of Marcus Rashford after watching the Manchester United forward in action during the pre-season meeting between the Red Devils and AC Milan in Wrocław, Poland.
The fixture was already highly anticipated because it marked the first time Amorim had come up against his former club since leaving Old Trafford in January 2026. The Portuguese coach was also facing Michael Carrick, who had taken over the Manchester United project following his departure.
Although AC Milan eventually produced an impressive comeback to defeat United 4-2, the result was reportedly not the only major talking point to emerge from the encounter.
According to the claims circulating after the match, Amorim was particularly impressed by Rashford’s performance and attitude after the England international returned to the Manchester United squad.
The former United manager is alleged to have admitted that he underestimated Rashford during his time at Old Trafford.
The reports suggest that Amorim was surprised by the forward’s work rate, determination and overall contribution, leading him to supposedly acknowledge that he may have judged the player too harshly.
Even more dramatically, Amorim is reportedly said to have suggested that Rashford deserves regular football and that he would like the opportunity to work with the attacker again at AC Milan.
If such comments were genuine, they could potentially add another fascinating twist to Rashford’s future.
The match itself provided plenty of entertainment, with both teams producing an action-packed encounter that featured six goals.
Manchester United made the stronger start and took the lead through Harry Maguire. The defender reportedly rose to meet a delivery from Bruno Fernandes and headed the ball beyond the Milan goalkeeper.
The Italian side responded through Samuel Chukwueze, who found the equaliser and brought Milan back into the contest.
United were then handed an opportunity to regain the advantage before half-time when they were awarded a penalty. However, Fernandes was unable to convert from the spot, leaving the teams level going into the break.
United regained the lead shortly after the restart when Patrick Dorgu found the net, putting Carrick’s side ahead once again.
However, Milan refused to surrender.
Alphadjo Cissè subsequently scored to restore parity before Gonçalo Ramos completed Milan’s turnaround by putting the Rossoneri in front. Ruben Loftus-Cheek then added another goal to complete a remarkable 4-2 comeback victory.
Despite the defeat, Rashford’s reported performance has now become another major talking point.
The forward’s future at Manchester United has been the subject of considerable speculation, and the alleged reaction from Amorim could potentially fuel those rumours further.
If Milan genuinely admire Rashford and believe he could become an important part of their squad, they could consider making an approach before the transfer window closes.
For Rashford, the priority will be continuing to regain his rhythm, fitness and confidence while proving that he can still make a major contribution at the highest level.
However, it is important to stress that Amorim’s alleged post-match comments have not been officially confirmed. There has been no verified statement from Amorim, AC Milan or Manchester United confirming that the Portuguese coach apologised to Rashford or formally expressed a desire to sign him.
For now, the claims remain speculation.
Nevertheless, the possibility of Amorim attempting to reunite with Rashford at San Siro would certainly create another major transfer storyline.
