Three top European clubs are reportedly locked in an intense competition to secure the services of Erling Haaland, who seems likely to depart Manchester City in pursuit of new challenges.
Haaland joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund ahead of the 2022–23 season for a fee of around £51 million, fending off interest from several other major clubs at the time. Since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium, the 24-year-old striker has firmly established himself as one of the best forwards in the world.
His remarkable goal-scoring record includes nine goals in just five games across all competitions this season, adding to an astonishing tally of 99 goals in 103 appearances for the Manchester club.
Although Manchester City are reportedly keen to extend Haaland’s contract until 2027, recent reports suggest that the Norwegian star has his eyes set on new opportunities. According to a Spanish publication,
Haaland has expressed a clear desire to face fresh challenges, potentially moving to another country and joining a different major club.
Barcelona is believed to be leading the race for Haaland’s signature, with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) also in the running. The competition to acquire the prolific striker is described as a “heated battle,” and reports indicate that Haaland’s starting price could be around €120 million. While this figure is substantial, it does not appear to be a deterrent for these top clubs.
Barcelona, in particular, is reportedly eager to bring Haaland to Camp Nou as part of their efforts to regain dominance in Europe. Club officials, including Deco and president Joan Laporta, have allegedly begun negotiations for the Norwegian forward. With a pressing need for a world-class striker, Barcelona views Haaland as the ideal candidate to spearhead their attack.
The club is also exploring ways to generate the necessary funds for this ambitious operation, potentially by offloading key players during the next transfer window. Convincing Haaland to join their project and elevate his career at Camp Nou will be a top priority for the Catalan giants.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid remains a serious contender in the race. The Spanish powerhouse is said to see Haaland as the perfect “number 9” to strengthen their attack.
Club president Florentino Pérez is reportedly keen on adding another marquee player to the squad, and Haaland fits their vision for a star forward who can dominate on the global stage.
PSG is also preparing to make a strong bid for Haaland, continuing their tradition of pursuing high-profile signings.
The Parisian club is well-positioned to offer a lucrative deal and is expected to compete fiercely with Barcelona and Real Madrid for the striker’s signature.
