Former Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand heavily criticized an Arsenal player who cost them a goal after a highly disappointing performance in the match against Chelsea last night.

Former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand didn’t hold back in criticizing a £30 million Arsenal star for his lackluster performance against Chelsea.

He suggested that this player might be the cause of Arsenal’s title hopes slipping away and expressed frustration that Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, hasn’t considered benching him.

After a disappointing performance against Chelsea, Arsenal’s £30 million signing faced severe criticism from Rio Ferdinand. The former footballer believed that this particular player might hinder Arsenal’s chances of clinching the title this season.

Ferdinand was highly critical of the Arsenal goalkeeper, David Raya, for what he saw as a glaring mistake during the match. He pointed out a moment where Raya allowed a lob from Mykhaylo Mudryk to result in Chelsea’s second goal at Stamford Bridge.

Raya’s journey at Arsenal hasn’t started as smoothly as many had hoped. The decision to secure his services, initially on loan with a buy option that could cost Arsenal £30 million, raised eyebrows within the football community.

Despite starting as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper after a brief period, Raya hasn’t consistently lived up to that status. His performance against Chelsea brought his capabilities into question, especially when considering that Arsenal had a promising alternative in Aaron Ramsdale.

Ferdinand highlighted Raya’s critical error during the match, emphasizing the potential repercussions of such mistakes on Arsenal’s title aspirations.

He wasn’t alone in voicing concerns about Raya’s performance; Richard Keys also took to social media to express doubts about Arsenal’s title chances with Raya as their goalkeeper.

Ramsdale’s name inevitably comes into the discussion. Shortly after Raya’s error, he almost paid the price for another mistake. Raya’s distribution from the back led to a dangerous situation as he played the ball to Cole Palmer, forcing him to rush out and thwart an impending goal.

While Ramsdale might not have the same footwork abilities as Raya, the question arises whether the marginal difference between the two goalkeepers justifies the significant investment in Raya.

This decision by Arteta, as indicated by Ferdinand, may have been an unwarranted gamble that appears to have backfired for Arsenal.

Arteta had his reasons for selecting Raya, citing certain attributes he brought to the team that Ramsdale lacked. However, the decision to opt for Raya over Ramsdale now appears to be one of the manager’s more questionable calls in light of recent performances.

the scathing criticism from former player Rio Ferdinand and others highlights the growing concerns regarding Arsenal’s goalkeeper, David Raya.

His performance against Chelsea has raised questions about whether he is the right choice for a team with title aspirations.

The decision to prioritize Raya over Ramsdale, as indicated by Ferdinand, seems to have been a risky move that has yet to pay off for Arsenal.
