Zinedine Zidane has emerged as a potential candidate for the Manchester United managerial position amidst uncertainty surrounding Erik ten Hag’s future with the club. Ten Hag has faced intense scrutiny due to a disappointing start to the season, with reports suggesting that his position at United is precarious.

The team’s worst start to a season in 61 years has led to the consideration of various names as potential replacements for Ten Hag.

Sporting CP’s highly-rated boss Ruben Amorim and former Real Madrid manager Zidane are among those being mentioned. Several members of the United squad have openly praised Zidane for his influence in the past.

Casemiro, who played under Zidane during his two spells as Real Madrid boss, expressed his admiration for the Frenchman in 2020, stating, “Even today I get a little nervous talking to him. I tell him he doesn’t know what he meant for us, for me.” Casemiro highlighted Zidane’s humility, football philosophy, and affectionate treatment of players.

He emphasized Zidane’s persistent encouragement for improvement, stating, “He’s very insistent; he always, always says: ‘Case, you can do more: arrive from the second line, feed midfielders, bring the ball out cleanly.’”

Raphael Varane, another player who worked with Zidane at Real Madrid, expressed pride for the last ten years under the coach’s guidance. Varane praised Zidane’s human side, calling him a source of inspiration for many players. The departure of Zidane from Real Madrid left a significant impact on Varane and an entire generation of players at the club.

Even players without a direct Real Madrid or France connection have shown admiration for Zidane. Right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, when asked about the player he would pick to play alongside, named Zidane.

Sofyan Amrabat, inspired by Zidane and Andres Iniesta during his upbringing, may find renewed motivation under the coaching of the ’98 World Cup winner. Luke Shaw, during Euro 2020, labeled Zidane as “one of the best midfielders ever.”

As Manchester United contemplates a managerial change, the positive testimonials from players across different backgrounds highlight Zidane’s universal appeal and potential to make a positive impact on the squad.

The prospect of Zidane taking charge at Old Trafford has garnered support from players who appreciate not only his coaching abilities but also his human qualities.
