Manchester City’s Ederson has denied claims that he was ‘affected’ by the praise received by his teammate Stefan Ortega.

Ederson suffered an injury during Manchester City’s final Premier League match of the season against Tottenham when his team was leading 1-0. He was replaced by Ortega, who made a crucial save to prevent Son Heung-min from scoring an equalizer. Ortega’s impressive performance allowed City to secure the Premier League title in the last game of the season.

Ortega received high praise for his save, and The Athletic reported that Ederson was affected by the positive comments directed towards his backup. This atmosphere was suggested to be a factor in the 30-year-old goalkeeper’s desire to leave, amid interest from Saudi Arabia. However, Ederson took to social media to refute these claims.

Ederson clarified the situation on Instagram, stating, “I would like to clarify that the message published by The Athletic yesterday, referencing my alleged discontent with a co-worker, is completely false.” He expressed his frustration about the injury, which not only kept him out of the season’s final stretch but also prevented him from representing Brazil in the Copa América.

Ederson elaborated, “Undoubtedly, the day I suffered the injury was one of the toughest days of my career. My only thought at the time was to continue defending City in our fight for the title. But the emotion of the match was stronger than the reality, and inevitably, I could not continue as I would have liked due to the injury, which completely obstructed my vision.”

Despite these challenges, Ederson emphasized his focus on recovery and preparation for the upcoming season. He dismissed any notions of dissatisfaction within the team, underlining his commitment to Manchester City and his teammates.

This clarification comes amid increasing attention from Saudi Arabian clubs, which have been making significant moves in the transfer market. The speculation about Ederson’s future was heightened by his injury and Ortega’s subsequent heroics, but his statement aims to put those rumors to rest.

The goalkeeper’s candid remarks highlight the emotional and physical toll of professional football, especially during critical moments like a title decider. Ederson’s injury was a significant blow, not just because it sidelined him for crucial matches, but also because it deprived him of the opportunity to represent his country on the international stage.

As Manchester City prepares for the new season, Ederson’s focus remains on recovery and readiness. His dedication to the team and his clear dismissal of any internal conflict suggest that he is fully committed to contributing to City’s continued success.

The situation underscores the challenges athletes face both on and off the field, dealing with injuries, public scrutiny, and the pressures of competition. Ederson’s response is a testament to his professionalism and determination to overcome adversity and return to peak performance.
